At Afrosmeet, protecting your privacy is an absolute priority. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal data in compliance with Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772), and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR — EU 2016/679).

2. Applicable Law & Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to all users in Ghana and to members of the global Afro diaspora. We comply with:
- Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) — Ghana's primary data protection law, overseen by the Data Protection Commission.
- Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772) — governing electronic data and online services in Ghana.
- GDPR — General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679, applicable to our EU operations and international data transfers.
Where both laws apply, we apply the stricter standard to ensure full protection of your personal data.
3. Personal Data Collected
To operate and improve Afrosmeet, we collect:
- Identity and contact details provided during registration (name, email address, age).
- Profile information, photos, bio and dating preferences you choose to share.
- Identity verification photo (mandatory, deleted immediately after validation).
- Geolocation data, only with your explicit consent, to suggest nearby profiles.
- Usage data, device information, IP address and technical logs for security.
- Payment data — processed exclusively by Apple App Store or Google Play. Afrosmeet does not store any banking or mobile money information.
4. Purpose of Processing
Your personal data is processed for the following purposes:
- Creating and managing your account, and enabling matching and messaging features.
- Verifying profiles and moderating the platform against fake accounts and prohibited content.
- Improving app performance, usability and functionality.
- Sending activity-related notifications (with your consent).
- Complying with legal obligations under Ghanaian and French law.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
Under Ghana's Data Protection Act (Act 843, Section 17) and the GDPR (Article 6), we process your data on the following grounds:
- Consent — for geolocation, push notifications and non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Contractual necessity — to provide the core Afrosmeet service (account, matching, messaging).
- Legitimate interest — for moderation, fraud prevention and platform safety.
- Legal obligation — where processing is required by Ghanaian or French law.
6. Sensitive Personal Data
Afrosmeet may process information relating to your cultural background or preferences in accordance with Ghana's Data Protection Act (Act 843) provisions on sensitive personal data. Such information is processed only with your explicit consent and used solely to improve matching relevance.
7. Data Sharing & Transfers
We do not sell your personal data. It may be shared only with:
- Technical service providers — cloud hosting (AWS, EU servers), push notifications (Firebase/Google), payments (Apple/Google).
- Competent authorities — where required by Ghanaian law (Ghana Police Service, EOCO, Data Protection Commission) or French law.
International transfers are conducted in compliance with Ghana's Data Protection Act and the GDPR, using Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
8. Data Security & Retention
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data as required by Ghana's Data Protection Act (Act 843).
- Active account: data retained for the duration of your account activity.
- Inactive account: data deleted or anonymised after 12 months of inactivity.
- After deletion: data erased within 30 days, except where legal retention is required.
- Verification photo: deleted immediately after profile validation.

11. Cookies
Afrosmeet uses essential cookies required for platform functionality. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics / GTM) and advertising pixels are deposited only with your explicit consent.
12. Minors
Afrosmeet is exclusively for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. Accounts found to belong to persons under 18 will be deleted immediately. To report a minor: contact@afrosmeet.com
13. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or by email. Continued use of Afrosmeet after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
